England shock defeat of Trinidad & Tobago
England are on a roll. Having defeated the USA only days ago, they cruised a to a surprise 3-0 victory over North America giants, Trinidad & Tobago.
Can anyone stop the England team? San Marino? Fiji? Sri Lanka? Or maybe the mighty Lapland?

Capello's semi-final target - England ambition or arrogance
The FA have set England manager, Fabio Capello, the target of reaching at the semi-finals of the 2010 World Cup or Euro 2012. For a team second seeded for the
World Cup qualifiers and rated 11th in the world (9th in Europe) that will be quite a feat. Is this English arrogance? Or a load of PR rubbish to please the
fans? Or maybe, like everyone else, they should be aiming to win these tournaments. Whatever, England expects....

England to play the USA at Wembley
The USA football team has announced that they will be visiting Wembley on May 28. They will play England as part of
their preparation for the World Cup 2010 qualifiers.
The last England v USA match was in 1994. Then, England triumphed 2-0 over the visitors. England are favourites to win
with the USA having not won a match between the two teams since 1950.
The Czech Republic are also lined up to visit Wembley. England v Czech Republic is pencilled in for August 20.

6 Feb 2008:
England trance the mighty Switzerland 2-1
Fabio Capello finished his first match as England manager with a 2-1 victory over Switzerland to boast about.
As we all know Switzerland are one of the mightiest teams in Europe. So a one goal drubbing is a fine result and one of which to be proud.

England to face Germany
The England team will fly to Berlin to face Germany on November 19.
England will be keen for a victory. Having suffered a defeat against Germany at Wembley last year the England team will be intent
showing they can get the best of the Germans. New England coach Fabio Capello described it as "a real challenge and something the
players will look forward to".

England's World Cup 2010 qualifier fixtures decided
Fixtures for England's World Cup qualifying campaign have been agreed. Capello's England team will face the mighty Andorra
away from home on 6 September, followed by a trip to Croatia four days later. Other teams in the Group are Belarus, Kazakhstan and Ukraine.
How England progress is anyone's guess. Will the slow fall continue? Or can the Italian fight off the threat of Scotland becoming the UK's no. 1
footballing nation?

14 Dec 2007:
Fabio Capello appointed as new England coach
Italian, Fabio Capello, has been confirmed as the new England coach. After final contract negotiations, the 61 year-old ex-Real Madrid
manager attended a 1pm news conference to be introduced as the next England coach.
Capello signed a 4-and-a-half year deal. This will take England past the World Cup and Euro 2012 qualification. Is he going to be good
for England? Or is he going to screw up and get sacked,... with a nice big pay-off? We will all find out soon enough.

Fabio Capello now favourite to become England coach
With Jose Mourinho having ruled himself out as next England coach, Fabio Capello is now looking most likely to succeed Steve McClaren.
News from the FA suggests the ex-AC Milan and Real Madrid manager could be on his way to England very soon. Talks between Capello and
FA chief executive Brian Barwick and director of development Sir Trevor Brooking have been described as ""extremely positive".

8 Dec 2007:
FA approach Mourinho's agent
Reports claim that the FA have aproached Jose Mourinho's agent to discuss the possibility that the former Chelsea manager take over
as England coach.
The FA seem to be preparing a shortlist of five or six candidates for the England job. Suspicions are that names on the list include
Jose Mourinho, Fabio Capello, Martin O'Neill, Marcello Lippi and Jurgen Klinsmann. Interstingly, the FA has also appoached Alex Ferguson
and Arsene Wenger about the position. With the sackings of Bill Beswick and Steve Round, members of Steve McClaren's backroom team, the FA are
laying the ground for the 'lucky' successor.

England to face Switzerland. And Scotland?
England have organised a friendly clash with Switzerland. The match is scheduled to take place at Wembley stadium on February 6.
With only 8 weeks until then the FA will now be under increased pressure to employ a new England coach. Should we hold our breath??
There is also talk of a Scotland v England match. However, with Scotland also currently in need of a new coach, it is unlikely
that any such match will be arranged in the near future.

England drawn against Croatia in World Cup draw
The FIFA draw for World Cup 2010 in South Africa has been made. England will face Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Andorra and
Croatia. Having suffered two embarrassing defeats at the hands of the Croats this was the last thing the English wanted.

22 Nov 2007:
McClaren sacked as England Coach
England coach, Steve McClaren and assistant coach Terry Venable were sacked today in response to England's Euro 2008 exit.
An emergency meeting of the FA after England's 3-2 defeat at Wembley ended in unanimous agreement that the senior coaching
staff had to go.
McClaren, who some had hoped would have resigned after the defeat, said it was "the saddest day in my career".
He went on to say that "It is a sad day to have been relieved of my duties but I understand the decision of the FA."
The search for a new England manager now begins. Jose Mourinho and Martin O'Neill were early favourites. Mourinho was, however,
quick to discount his interest.

England lose to Croatia leading to Euro 2008 exit
England crashed out of Euro 2008. Playing a shockingly bad game of football, the England lost 3-2 to a far superior side from Croatia.
No excuse was good enough. With some players missing from injury, England were missing the likes of Owen and Rooney. However, for a
so-called world class team they played like a bunch of amateurs. Croatia, fresh from Saturday's defeat against Macedonia, were taking no prisoners.
And the best team won.

16 Nov 2007:
England win in Austria, but Owen injured
The England team faced Austria in a warm-up friendly. Like their rivals north of the border, they came away with a 1-0 victory over Euro 2008 hosts.
Prior to the Euro 2008 qualifier against Croatia, England travelled to Austria to take on Austria. They won 1-0, but Michael Owen was injured
and will now miss the match against the Croats.

English FA continue to back British team for London 2012 Olympics
The dispute over the creation of a Great Britain team for the London 2012 Olympics has kicked off again. Simon Clegg, head of the British Olympic Association
has reiterated his desire to see a football team representing all of Britain entered into the 2012 games. The FA support this aim.
This stance by the FA is, to many, a continued diregard for the fans and general common sense. After the fiasco of the funding, delays and cost of the
new Wembley Stadium they seem to be pig-headedly embarking on a mission to help the BOA force the Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish into a united British
team that almost noone, including England fans, want. Hopefully they will see the light. Unfortunately few believe they will.

England defeat Estonia, but lose in Russia
England fans had a mixed week in Euro 2008 fortunes. Estonia were easily dispatched 3-0, but despite an early lead courtesy of Wayne Rooney
Russia won a 2-1 vistory over the expectant English.
Russia now control England's chances of quaification. For the Englanders to progress the Russians must slip up in either of their two remaining games -
in Israel and Andorra.

08 Sep 2007:
England victory shock!
The rest of Europe were left shocked as England actually managed a decent victory.
England impressed their fans for once, defeating Israel 3-0 at Wembley stadium. With a rare show of skill, and in the
absence of star players David Beckham, Wayne Rooney and Owen Hargreaves, the England team achieved a 3-0 victory over the
mighty Israel. Goal scorers were Owen Wright-Phillips, Michael Owen and Micah Richards.
Steve McClaren is reported to have postponed his trip to the Job Centre until at least Thursday.

England lose 2-1 to Germany at Wembley
While Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland basked in glory, England suffered a painful home defeat at the hands of Germany.
Frank Lampard opened the scoring, puting England ahead. Unfortunately, for the English, this lead was soon ended. Making
a hash of a save against a Bernd Schneider strike, goalkeeper Robinson allowed Kevin Kuranyi to equalise before Christian Pander
secured a Wembley victory for Germany.

England fall to 12th position in FIFA rankings.
The England team have dropped out of the list top ten footballing nations. With a points decrease of 143 the England squad
has been relegated four places to 12th position, far from pleasing any England fan.
Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales each climbed one position.

6 June 2007:
Estonia 0-3 England - McClaren's original decision to drop Beckham now shown to be even more flawed.
England won a comfortable victory against Estonia. Once again David Beckham performed well and made everyone wonder why Steve McClaren refused to play him until very recently.
It seems England's decline may be slowing with the help of Beckham, and McClaren may have another few months reprieve from the Job Centre.
|
|
1 June 2007:
Beckham shines, showing McClaren's foolishness
David Beckham helped England hold off Brazil and secure a 1-1 draw at Wembley while also showing up England coach Steve McClaren.
Steve McClaren, as we all remember, vowed he would never pick David Beckham to play for England.
He obvioulsy went back on his word tonight. And Beckham has shown just how inspired the England coach's
original thinking was. It's good to see England are in such good hands.

12 Apr 2007:
Premiership ask for international windows
The English Premier League is proposing that England internationals be played during
two three-week periods. These 'international windows' will be immediately after Christmas
and at the end of the league. This would allow extended periods during which the
coach can work with the team. Also, it would prevent any clash of demand for players
by club and country. Superb idea! Or is it?
Two problems come to mind - the rest of the world and the fans. It may be that all the other
nations may not be as keen, which won't help. Also, what about travelling fans? Will they be
happy to frantically follow their team abroad over a three week period a opposed to the
current set up. We suspect not.

11 Apr 2007:
England to face Brazil at Wembley
England's first match at the new Wembley stadium will be against Brazil. The FA have announced that England
will face Brazil on June 1.
England v Brazil will be a superb spectacle. In many ways Brazil are an excellent choice of opposition for the first senior
game at the new Wembley. But is it a wise choice? England lost thier previous home game to Spain. And, it would be fair to say that
they are not likely to fare any better against the mighty Brazilians. And with current doubt over national team form,
any gubbing England receive won't help them against Estonia five days later.
Anyone ever wonder if the Scots, Irish or Welsh have infiltrated the FA? It would at least make sense.

24, 28 Mar 2007:
Israel 0 - 0 England, Andorra 0 - 3 England
Like or not England did pretty well in their Euro 2008 match against Israel and Andorra.
4 points from 6 is good in anyone's book - Israel haven't lost at home for seven years
and 3 goals in Andorra isn't too shabby. Their fans and media think otherwise.
The team and management were booed against Andorra and the media wants rid of McClaren.
England expects? Or just a poor example of support from media and fans?

Wembley key handover confirmed
Wembley National Stadium Limited [WNSL] have confirmed that construction company Multiplex have handed over
the keys for Wembley stadium.
But, can the builders be trusted to have completed the job properly?
We caught a look of the new stadium. And to be fair, we think the FA could have expected
something a bit better for the money they spent. Check out the new Wembley.

7 Feb 2007:
England 0 - 1 Spain
England have suffered their first home deafeat under Steve McClaren. In a poor display, the home team
never really looked like winning with the Spaniards coming close to scoring on more than one occasion.
Fernando Morientes shot the ball over the bar in the first-half, and David Villa's effort was skillfully saved by
England goalkeeper Ben Foster in the early second half. Then substitute Andres Iniesta nailed a shot past Foster
to give Spain the victory they deserved.
In March England face Israel then Andorroa as part of the Euro 2008 qualifying stages. In theory
these should be easy games for the English. Present and recent form suggests otherwise.

Owen Hargreaves has been voted, by England fans, as the official Nationwide England Player of the Year 2006. Like everyone else

Wayne Rooney - for services to thuggery, and allegedly caring for the elderly

Steven Gerrard - Superb penatly-taking efforts in World Cup 2006
