World Cup 2006
Host nation: Germany
Number of teams: 32
Winners: Italy
Opening game: Germany - Costa Rica, 5pm June 9, Munich
Final: July 9, Berlin
The World Cup is now over. 32 nations qualified. Big and small they were all
determined to do themselves proud, with the possibility of just maybe,
tasting the glory of lifting the FIFA World Cup.
This is how the 'mighty' England performed until their predictable exit by penalty shoot-out?

England postpone elimination by one more match.
After a lacklustre first half, including an Ecuador strike off the bar, England were saved when an annoyingly superb
David Beckham free-kick found the net in the sixtieth minute.

England are coming home.
A dismal match for England. After losing Beckham to injury,
Wayne Rooney then made things worse by stamping on Portugal's Carvalho, and was justifiably red-carded.
Finally there was a final embarrassment of penalties. Complete failure.
Bye bye England.
